We have just confirmed with ORDA management that the Oval is officially closed for the season due to the warm temperatures (it is currently 55 degrees and sunny) and continued warm weather forecasted. Therefore, that also means that the Lake Placid Ice Marathon Finale is cancelled. If you have entered the Marathon, you will be […]

*PLEASE NOTE: THE REST OF THE OVAL SESSIONS ARE CANCELLED TODAY 2/20/17* Still a remarkably sunny and warm day in Lake Placid. We had our 9 am – 11 am session this morning but the oval is closed for the rest of the day. Fingers crossed for tomorrow’s morning session. ICE RATING (1-10, with 10 […]

Hello everyone, There is no 4 pm – 6 pm session today due to soft ice; the crew is dedicated to preserving the ice for tomorrow’s races. Jury still out as to whether there will be public skating (hockey and figure skates only) tonight.
The sun was out! Nothing better than skating in the sun. Ice Rating (from 1-10, with 10 being best): 6.5 There were several rough spots and grooves; not surprising, considering the poor oval was buried in 6-8 inches of snow after yesterday’s Snowpocalypse. Day one of the US Long Track Age Group Nationals! ICE RATING (1-10, with 10 being the best): 7.5 – 8.5 The ice was smoother and faster in the morning but due to snow and damp became slower as the day went on. Still good ice and a great competition day! Day 2 tomorrow!
Chilly in the morning, still chilly in the afternoon–but at least we had sun in the morning (and the moon at night)! The ice improved after the morning session, although still quite nice skating this a.m. ICE RATING (from 1-10, with 10 being the best): 10 am – 12 pm: 8.5 Smooth and fairly fast, […]
