Whew! Another Empire State Winter Games in the books. It was a chilly, busy weekend here, so sorry for delays in posting.
ICE RATINGS (from 1-10 with 10 being the best):
Friday, February 2: 6
VERY SLIPPERY. Due to the extremely cold weather, the ice surface was extremely smooth and brittle. There was slight snow cover also which didn’t help matters. However, the crew did their best to make it the best it could be, and by the second set of distances at the competition, it was slightly better.
Saturday, February 3: 6.5
The ice was slightly improved but still somewhat brittle and rough in places. There were a few prominent spots where piles of slush had frozen, and there were “tracks” from equipment being used on the Oval earlier. At least it wasn’t as “slippery” as it was on Friday.
Sunday, February 4: 7.5
There was snow cover throughout the day, due to the light snowfall; the ice was “slower” than yesterday but there weren’t any obvious rough spots or bad conditions.
Just a reminder, speed skating is 4 pm – 6 pm tomorrow (Monday, February 5) and public skating is 7 pm – 9 pm – then the Oval will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
