Imagine the best ice you’ve skated on in Lake Placid – today’s ice was probably like that, or even better. The crew has been outdoing themselves on the ice maintenance, and today’s ice was heralded as the best of the season by more than one overjoyed skater. ICE RATING (from 1-10, with 10 being the […]
What a weekend! After difficult conditions on Thursday, the crew worked tirelessly to restore the ice for our Irving Jaffee Single Distance Championships meet this weekend. What a difference a day makes. Although the ice certainly wasn’t “perfect”, it was much improved from yesterday’s conditions. Some of the spots on the ice were so smooth and fast I would have rated a 9…but there are still some rough spots (especially on the corners) and the far inner lane still needs work, […]
The ice was rather rough today, but we have been told the crew will continue working on it to improve the conditions for this weekend’s meet. ICE RATING (from 1-10, with 10 being the best): 5.5 There were several rough patches (especially on corners), partially filled holes, and shell ice patches. The crew will be […]

Skatin’ in the rain. ICE RATING (from 1-10 with 10 being the best): 4-5.5 The ice was very soft, which made skating difficult. Hopefully it will be better later in the week since the Oval is closed tomorrow and Wednesday as usual.
ICE RATING (from 1-10, with 10 being the best): 4-6.5 (range) The ice was very soft and it was easy to hit “bad” spots but it firmed up as the temperature dropped. The ice recovered well enough to allow for public skating later.
It was a great first day of racing the Jack Shea Sprint Championships! ICE RATING (1-10 with 10 being the best): 8 The crew put a lot of work into the ice today and it showed, especially this afternoon. The ice was smooth and faster during the afternoon session.
Ice ice baby. The ice surface was smoother and improved from yesterday! ICE RATING (from 1-10 with 10 being the best): 8.5 Smooth, faster ice; the crew’s work on it paid off. Still a few small rough spots and gouges but not as many as yesterday, and should be even better tomorrow.
