*PLEASE NOTE: THE REST OF THE OVAL SESSIONS ARE CANCELLED TODAY 2/20/17* Still a remarkably sunny and warm day in Lake Placid. We had our 9 am – 11 am session this morning but the oval is closed for the rest of the day. Fingers crossed for tomorrow’s morning session. ICE RATING (1-10, with 10 […]
Due to unsafe ice conditions (ie, soft ice), the oval is closed today. Please keep watching the site for more information as it becomes available.
Hello everyone, There is no 4 pm – 6 pm session today due to soft ice; the crew is dedicated to preserving the ice for tomorrow’s races. Jury still out as to whether there will be public skating (hockey and figure skates only) tonight.
The sun was out! Nothing better than skating in the sun. Ice Rating (from 1-10, with 10 being best): 6.5 There were several rough spots and grooves; not surprising, considering the poor oval was buried in 6-8 inches of snow after yesterday’s Snowpocalypse. Some smooth spots and no doubt that after the hard work of […]
It hasn’t stopped snowing yet–quite a snowy week! ICE RATING (from 1-10, with 10 being the best): 7.5 The ice was smoother and faster under the smooth; slight snow cover but it was lighter than Monday’s snow covering. A few rough spots on corners, but nothing too disruptive.
Second and last day of the US Long Track Age Group Nationals! Snow throughout the day (and a lot at that) made for a very snowy Sunday at the Oval. OVERALL ICE RATING (from 1-10, with 10 being the best): 7 Due to snowy conditions, ice was slower and snow covered, obviously more so in the […]
Day one of the US Long Track Age Group Nationals! ICE RATING (1-10, with 10 being the best): 7.5 – 8.5 The ice was smoother and faster in the morning but due to snow and damp became slower as the day went on. Still good ice and a great competition day! Day 2 tomorrow!
Chilly in the morning, still chilly in the afternoon–but at least we had sun in the morning (and the moon at night)! The ice improved after the morning session, although still quite nice skating this a.m. ICE RATING (from 1-10, with 10 being the best): 10 am – 12 pm: 8.5 Smooth and fairly fast, […]
COLD today, but beautiful sunset. Lots of skaters here for the US National Age Group Championships! ICE RATING (from 1-10, with 10 being the best): 8 Smoother and faster ice than usual today; some small cracks across ice surface but they did not interfere with the quality of the ice. Should be a great weekend […]
